L'avis des experts

Wine Spectator:

Truly elegant and decisive in the Mediterranean profile, swinging between colours which range from green to white and orange. The primary notes of boxwood, thyme and bay meet with the hints of magnolias, gardenias and hawthorn in quite a violent yet wise manner. Time will give it greater complexity which in turn will allow us to fully comprehend this project which began in 2014. Full bodied, a stratified structure, vibrant, cutting and really linear, exciting now but will give more of itself over time as only a very few other great Italian whites are able to do. Better from 2025.

The Wine Advocate:

A passion project that puts Petit Manseng somewhat unexpectedly on the Tuscan coast, the Fattoria le Pupille 2020 Piemme has intense aromas of sweet orchard fruit, spicy pear, butter croissant, candied pineapple and orange marmalade. The first vintage made was 2014, and I remember tasting the wine back then from a single barrel set aside at the back of the winery. Petit Manseng is a variety that produces high alcohol, and winemaking as a result must prioritize acidity, body and varietal character. This wine finishes with some caramelized aromas, but the wood used is steamed with very light toasting in order to remove any bitterness from the barrel. "This is a grape you really need to understand," vintner Elisabetta Geppetti says.

James Suckling:

A round and beautiful white with sliced pineapple, light honey, cooked apple and lemon curd. Medium to full body. Crunchy and beautiful with a lovely finish. Pure al dente fruit. Drink now.
