L'avis des experts

Tim Atkin:

This is the third vintage of an Albillo Mayor from Jaime Suárez, who uses grapes from across the Atauta Valley. Made with three different components using stainless steel, amphoras, larger oak barrels and time on lees, it's a complex, structured expression of Ribera del Duero's signature white variety, with some tannic grip, quince, sourdough bread and citrus flavours and a toasty undertone. 2023-29.

The Wine Advocate:

Their white 2022 Albillo Mayor was produced with grapes from their vineyards and from external suppliers, so it has grown in volume. 2022 was a warm and dry year of low yields and an early harvest to avoid over-ripeness and loss of freshness. For the first time ever, they started harvesting in September in this cooler part of Ribera del Duero. This has ripe fruit and an opulent palate but with a balanced 13.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.18. It has aromas of pit fruit and wet stones. It's a blend of three different fermentations, with more or less cold soak and skin contact to come to a balanced white aged in used 500- and 600-liter barrel and some tinajas. 10,770 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2023.
