The 2006 “200 Monges” Seleccion Especial is a selection of the best Tempranillo used for 200 Monges first produced in 2004. It has a clean nose of mint chocolates, espresso coffee, cloves, nutmeg and (very) ripe black fruit, black cherries and cassis. The medium to full-bodied palate reveals better balance than its siblings, with good acidity and some gritty tannins compensated by plenty of juicy fruit. Drink now-2017. I found the Vinicola Real portfolio a little inconsistent with some ripe and too oaky wines. The reds, especially, seemed all very ripe and I found them a little confusing, showing notes of oxidation at first and then getting fresher with air. I tasted the wines twice and followed their evolution once the bottle was opened. - Luis Gutiérrez.
